Senior Night: Volleyball

Here I am with my parents on Senior Night for the volleyball team. I was 18. Mom was 45 and Dad was 46. I'll be turning 45 this year and I have a 2 year old, a 9 year old and a 7 year old. How different our lives are at the same age. I think Dad had started his master's program at IU and he had started substitute teaching. He was taking steps to move in a new direction at the age of 46. Why do we let age limit us? His example gives me hope that I'll take a new, fun and satisfying direction soon.

Bald Eagle

Last week, on our drive home from taking the older girls to school, Janie and I saw a bald eagle perched on a lamp post in Woodinville, right next to the soccer fields where Naomi sometimes plays. I feel full of awe whenever I see these birds (awe-full). The last one I saw was when Dad was visiting a little over a year ago, the morning that he and I drove around and took pictures in Kirkland and Bellevue while Janie was at the church nursery. It was perched on a bit of the Kirkland marina dock. Here's a photo of it--see it through the sculpture frame way off in the distance sitting on a post?

Chinese New Year

This weekend there were Chinese New Year festivities downtown. The older girls remember last year's morning downtown to watch the dragon procession as one of the highlights of Dad's visit. I decided that it would be better for me to wait until next year to go again (it's just too soon). It was disappointing to Naomi especially that we didn't go this year; I think she wanted it to be an annual tradition. Phil gets claustrophobic in crowds so next year I'll probably take the older girls.
